UMBERTO TOZZI: Local fans of the Italian pop superstar should plan a trek down the Q.E.W. Tozzi is playing shows at the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, on March 16 and 17. He’s sure to perform such hits as “Tu Vivrai,” “Gloria,” and “Ti Amo.” Appearing at the same shows is FAUSTO LEALI (known as the Italian Soul Man), who will sing such favourites as “A Chi,” “Deborah,” and “Angeli Negri.” Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
GOD MADE ME FUNKY: Funk lovers here have had good reasons to smile of late. Genre pioneer GEORGE CLINTON (PARLIAMENT, FUNKADELIC) reportedly delivered a great show at The Phoenix recently, and local funk faves God Made Me Funky dropped a righteously fine new disc, Enter the Beat, this week. They’re having their CD release party at The Opera House on March 14, and other local dates are sure to follow. It’s their third album, and their previous outing is up for a Juno Award soon. The eight-piece GMMF call their sound ‘Nu-Funk,’ and it blends rock, funk, r ’n’ b and hip-hop styles. The mix of vocals and the rapping of PHATT AL add to the variety. Get Funky!
UPCOMING: It has been an eventful few weeks for Montreal DJ duo TEAM CANADA. Their brand of mash-ups and original club music (they term it Canadian Club) is creating a stir, and they’ve just played parties for PARIS HILTON (gag) and DAVID BECKHAM (in China). Team Canada will blast it out at The Guvernment on March 29, along with DJ AM and the wonderful MSTRKRFT.
