Toronto interior design firm Cecconi Simone has in recent years kept busy with designs for dozens of condo towers across the GTA, but a new project sees principals Elaine Cecconi and Anna Simone happily grounded.
The project is Lippincott Living, an eight-unit townhouse project near Bathurst and College streets that Cecconi Simone not only designed, but also developed in partnership with Toronto architect Brad Netkin and a silent partner. Now under construction and scheduled for occupancy next spring, the townhouses by Cecconi Simone and partners’ new Blurredge Group has already earned an award of excellence from the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO).
After years of working with real estate developers across Toronto, Canada, and the world, Cecconi says she and design partner Simone want to take those experiences and apply them to innovative infill housing solutions for Toronto, a city they both love.
Speaking on a recent rainy weekday afternoon at Cecconi Simone’s offices in a modest brick building in Toronto’s Little Portugal, Cecconi says, “We want to take that knowledge that we’ve garnered and put it into projects that are small, intimate, and personal, and which will have a direct impact on the fabric of our city.”
The townhomes of Lippincott Living – sustainably designed with features such as generous daylight access and cross-ventilation – are rectangular spaces that feel nevertheless spacious thanks to Cecconi Simone’s trademark efficient, multi-functional design. Accustomed to making small condos feel larger, the designers’ brought the same goal to their first project as developers. Main floors, for example, are finished with a porcelain tile that extends to an outside courtyard and visually unifies the entire first level.
To help to establish their credibility as a developer as well as showcase the high level of detail in Lippincott Living, Cecconi Simone built a model showroom on the ground floor of their office spaces on Dundas Street. The showroom recently won gold in this year’s Design Exchange Awards national design competition.Page 1/...Page 2
