The campaign for the 2009 pension income recalculation gets underway again this year. This month, Istituto Nazionale Previdenza Sociale (INPS) will be sending pensioners abroad a large envelope containing all the forms for the “Red/Est” campaign. This year, over 300,000 packages will be sent out throughout the world. More than 269,000 went out last year, with 217,000 certifications returned completed.
“Pensioners who don’t receive the envelope shouldn’t be worried,” assures Mimmo Rizzo of Patronato INAS (Italian social assistance institute)-Canada. “The envelopes, in fact, aren’t being sent to everyone.”
Those receiving the package will find a CUD form (the single Italian form for certifying income), a form for tax deductions, and one for declaring Red/Est income.
What to do at that point? Pensioners abroad can receive free assistance at patronati offices – the Italian pension information offices.
Beginning March 1, the offices will be able to access the INPS online site for sending the income form. Also included in the package will be documents for declaring income from previous years, if this information was not previously sent. In this case too, there’s no need for panic. Just ask for advice at patronati counters.
To facilitate and speed up dispatch of the file, the key is to prepare all documents beforehand. Before heading to a patronati counter, remember to bring ID, a copy of your personal Canadian income tax form and that of your spouse, and receipts of the various sources of income – especially Canadian income.
The deadline for this current campaign is June 30, as it was last year. A few days after that, the online process will be reactivated and remain functional to Nov. 30. Pensioners submitting the declaration by June 30 will receive their pension recalculation by October or November of 2010. For those submitting by Nov. 30, the recalculation will be done by February or March 2011.
Regarding Canadian income tax filing, INPS will send out Italian pension income certification by the end of February in a separate envelope – which is to be presented to Canadian tax offices. The taxable pension income calculation is based on this document, and is also used for income supplement determination.Page 1/...Page 2
