Brookline Rotary hosts group of young professionals from Italy

rotaryFrom May 19-22, the Brookline Rotary Club hosted a team of young professionals from Venice, Italy, as part of a Rotary International Exchange Program. Five professionals from the Venice area stayed with members of the Brookline Rotary Club, learning about American lifestyle and culture and meeting with their professional counterparts.

At the weekly meeting of Brookline Rotary, the Italian guests talked about themselves, their careers and their Rotary clubs in Italy, and were welcomed to the Boston area by Signor Domenico Savio Teker, director of the education office at the Italian Consulate in Boston and a resident of Brookline.

Elisabetta Fabbri, the team leader, is an architect specializing in historic restoration. She was the lead architect on the restoration of the La Scala Opera House.

The other members of the team included Katia Carron, an early childhood educator; Guiliano Bordigato, a small business analyst; Caterina Boschetti a marketing consultant; and Philip Brutenberger, an agri-entrepreneur.

With the help of Brookline Chamber of Commerce’s Celinda Shannon, the guests met with their local counterparts, including Vicki Milstein of BEEP and Andrew Haber of Sunshine Academy; Steve Faber of Stop & Shop, Rebecca Flores at Whole Foods and John Lee at Allandale Farms; Doreen Nicastro of Nicastro Consulting and Mark Shifrin at Brookline Valuation. Their Rotary Club hosts were Carrie Carrizosa, George Chapman, Philip Sandler, Joyce Graff and Susan Rack.

While visiting Brookline, the group also enjoyed tours of Brookline and Boston, a Red Sox game, a trip to the Clay Observatory and a Pops Concert at Symphony Hall. Over a three-week period, the group will be visiting about six different Rotary clubs in District 7910 from Brookline to Sturbridge, experiencing a slice of American life.

In June, five area residents will be going to Venice to enjoy a similar program. Rotary International offers several exchange programs for high school students, college students and adults. The objective is to build bridges among nations and facilitate understanding and peace.
