PIB and Italian Consulate to Host Sailing Championship


Beginning on June 27, Professionisti Italiani a Boston will host two Italian students from the nonprofit sailing school “Scuola Vela Mascalzone Latino;” the teenagers will visit Boston, discuss motivational personal stories with local Italian professionals, and compete against young sailors from renowned Boston sailing clubs. On July 2, PIB and the Consul General of Italy in Boston, Mr. Nicola De Santis, will award the Neapolitan sailing team during the final reception. Italian Teens Compete In Local Sailing Competition


From July 14-18, two Italian teen sailors from Scuola Vela Mascalzone Latino will compete against three well-known Boston-area sailing centers. The teens were honored to accept this invitation and will receive credit from the school for competing. The event starts at the MIT Sailing Center, and ends with a ceremony at MIT Pavilion. At the ceremony, Consul Nicola De Santis will present an award to the teens. This event is hosted by Professionisti Italiani a Boston and the Italian Consulate.

New Consul General of Italy Arrives in Boston

Salerno-native Nicola De Santis stepped in as new Consul General of Italy in Boston at the end of August, taking over the post from Giuseppe Pastorelli. The 45-year-old De Santis holds a law degree from the Università di Salerno and started his diplomatic career back in 1999. Between 2002 and 2006, he was the Italian Consul in Detroit. In 2006 he moved to Caracas to work at the Italian embassy’s Commercial and Economic office. The Consulate General of Italy’s third annual “Achievement Awards” ceremony took place at the Museum of Fine Arts on Thursday, May 2. Corrieretandem founder Nicola Orichuia received the “Giovane Promessa” (Promising Youth) award for his work on Corrieretandem.info (launched in January 2011) and Corrieretandem magazine (launched in January 2013). Several other awards were given out at the ceremony that took place in the exhibit space currently hosting masterpiece drawings from Michelangelo Buonarroti. Six months after hosting its first successful fundraising event “italianissimo!,” the Public Charity “Friends of the Italian Cultural Center of Boston/FICCB” was launched in December 2012 with the aim of creating a Center of Italian Culture in Boston and to ensure its management and operation once it opens.
